I been having a lot of fun making this blog. It was a little hard but I got through it. One question that I found the answer to is, What did they use the pots and vases for in Ancient Greece and how did they make the pots? Here is what I found, In Ancient Greece they used the pot mainly for storage. The Greeks stored different kinds of grains and even wine. If you are wondering how they make the pots then you will find out right now. The Greeks used a wheel and put the clay on top, while they were shaping the clay the wheel would spin. Isn’t that cool!!! In addition, One other question I found the answering a topic to is What is so important about Greek paintings and what type of painting formula did they use? In Ancient greece, the Greeks painted abstract designs on the outside and realistic murals about every day Greece. Also, the Greeks mostly painted geometric designs. It is important to us because the paintings on the pots and vases helped the archaeologists learn more about Ancient Greece and what happened during the time. As I research more about my topic it makes me think deeper and harder about Ancient Greece
I also learned stuff that were not my questions like the clay from Athens had a huge iron content that turns red when baked. In addition the vases in Athens were usually storage for olive oil and wine. A few thing I found interesting is that pottery is very popular in Greece. Where they kept the pottery shops was called a keramikos. In Greece the money was called drachmas. The post cost about one to two drachmas. Vases costed about two to three drachmas. When the vases are painted certain ways the vases cost more. I also liked looking for websites good for people to look at and find good information. One website that I thought was filled with detail is www.ancientgreece.com. This website was filled with information. It did not just tell facts about pottery and how it is made, the website told the stories behind ancient greek pottery I found even more information about Greece and I feel like I know what it was like in Ancient Greece.
We would have never known about Ancient Greece without their pottery. Pottery was a way to show what happens in Greece everyday. The pot and vases have different paintings on them and each vase or pot has their own story about ancient Greece. Maybe on one pot there was a painting of the Persian war on it or About Alexander the Great. With the help of Greek pottery, archaelolgisist can try to figure out what happend in Ancient greece.
Talking to people is different from how the Greeks talked to each other. Our time we can send an email or text and call someone. on Ancient Greece it was very hard for the Greeks to talk to one another from far away. Greeks actually used pots to write messages to friends and family. I could imagine doing that. Here is a challenge, make or buy a little pot, it does not have to be ancient Greece style, write a note on it and give it to a friend. Tell your friend to give it to someone else and so on. If you do this, you will see how hard it is to talk to someone far away and instead of emailing or texting them. If I was making a pot and painting something on there to represent me I would put different symbols. I have three dogs and each of them would get their own symbol. My youngest dog I would put a X with a circle because she loves to “hunt” her toys and pretend it is her prey. For my middle dog I would put a bone symbol because he loves to dig, and my oldest dog I would out a Z because he aways sleeps. Even in the real world we use symbols. When you text you have Emojis. Each emoji has a meaning. When you feel frustrated you put a face with steam coming out of his ears. We are not to different from Ancient Greece.
If you are in school and are making a blog here are some tips for you. Making a blog is really fun but somewhat hard at the same time. Always turn in post in time and make sure they are thorough. Teachers like thorough paragraphs. Make sure you put nice juicy information in your posts. The hardest part for me was when I did not turn in a post on time it can bring your grade down a lot. But the best part about making a blog about history is you can learn about different culture and what happened in the world a long time ago. Also if you are having trouble in history do not run away from it learn something new!
